What is an MPRN number?

Example MPRN number

An MPRN or meter point reference number, is a supply number assigned to your meter. This can be found on your gas bill/ invoice and helps us identify your supply characteristics.

Understanding the Gas Market

Currently the UK produces only 44% of its gas requirement. 47% of our gas is imported via pipelines from Europe and Norway. The remaining 9% is shipped into the UK by tankers in the form of liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from Qatar and other countries further afield.

Gas consumption for customers is effected largely by the time of year, even more so than electricity. For example, if you operate a hotel which uses gas then the likely hood is your bill will be much higher in the winter than it is in summer.

As a result, gas wholesale prices are effected when demand increases. This causes changes in the market and can have a huge impact on prices. Knowing when to secure your next contract is really important and is why we use our industry knowledge to give you the best advice possible.

Gas Charges

Gas charges are made up of two components on a bill:

  • Unit Rate; Pence per kilowatt
  • Standing charge; A daily charge which is normally displayed in £'s or pence
